CSIRO X Something Digital

Something Digital is excited to confirm that CSIRO, Australia’s national science agency, are joining the Festival as a Collaborative Partner for 2021.

Following the success of 2020 which saw both organisations host the Deep Geek stream at Something Digital’s flagship festival in October, the renewal of the partnership will see a greater focus on the role of Responsible Innovation in our digital futures.

As the lines between our digital and physical selves become more and more blurred we increasingly find ourselves facing new digital dilemmas, often created through the unanticipated and unintended consequences of the technology we are building.

Ethical questions are now front and centre. The innovation ecosystem needs to sustainably embed responsible practices within the core of its activities, platforms, services and technologies. The key question is not ‘why’ but ‘how?’

Through Something Digital, CSIRO will be leveraging its research, UX and scientific capabilities to answer that very question starting with the Night Nomads in March, where researcher David Douglas, will join a conversation looking at the elimination of hate speech online.

We also welcome Justine Lacey, Director of CSIRO’s Responsible Innovation Future Science Platform, back to our Something Digital Content Curation Committee. The Committee draws together a brains trust of innovative thinkers, providing content feedback and support for the main festival and other activations.

We look forward to working with CSIRO to truly deliver an incredible digital innovation festival for Queensland in 2021.
