In 2022 Something Digital turned 5 and expanded into Something Fest to deliver Australia's largest digital innovation event.

Happy birthday to us … and of course to all our partners, speakers, participants and anyone else who has helped us shape up and deliver Something Digital for Queensland over the past 5 years! And whilst every year was fabulous, 2022 outshines them all!

Designed around the theme of Reality Bites, the focus of Something Digital was to shine a light on some of our globe’s complex problems with the view to leverage digital technology and innovation to move the needle forward.

From responsible design to internet conspiracies; branding to customer experiences; talent to misinformation; 2032 to Net Zero – the two conference days presented us with a rollercoaster of topics pertinent to the growth of our organisations; the strengthening of our ecosystem and the ethical conundrums of our digital futures.

This was coupled with other activations like the Something School, Roundtables, Networking activities.

Over the four days, Something Digital opened its doors to 1000+ participants, 99 speakers, 11 activations and over 44 hours of content all with the focus of strengthening Queensland’s digital economy.

And of course we cannot leave up the expansion of Something Digital into the Something Fest through a collaboration with River City Labs, Proptech BNE and the Queensland Government – delivering a full week of tech, innovation & digital events. Australia’s largest innovation festival for 2022.

Roundtables.

Mon 24 October

The conference kicked off with an intimate invite-only Roundtable discussion between leaders of our digital ecosystem.

Exploring sustainable food systems. How might we leverage digital innovation to contribute to a sustainable food system in Australia?

Part education, part design thinking workshop and part networking activity, Something Digital’s roundtables were a chance to further progress one of our country’s biggest challenges.

Industry, government, not for profits and community leaders came together to understand the realities of our food system and to create new and scalable habits both on a personal and organisational level.

Conference.

Tue 25 – Wed 26 October

Centred around digital innovation strategies, Something Digital delivered content that inspired, built capabilities and celebrated the incredible stories that sprout from our backyard. All focused around this year’s theme – Reality Bites.

A two-day program, jam-packed with 99 speakers presenting across 2 stages. Headliners from overseas and Australia joined a suite of interstate and local legends.

Plus 12 Masterclasses, presented by thought-leaders within our ecosystem, allowed attendees to deep dive into juicy digital topics.

Beyond the stage, attendees engaged with Speed Networking and official Networking Drinks, between mingling informally within the dedicated Food Zone.

Open Studios.

Thu 27 October

Open Studios present our partners and local businesses with the opportunity to host their own event under the Something Digital umbrella.

Run by local businesses and for local businesses, events are short, sharp, free to attend, and scattered across Brisbane. Hosts have the opportunity to showcase their digital product or service, while providing a fun & educational opportunity for members of the broader digital ecosystem.

Our 2022 Open Studios were a collection of 6 In-Person & Virtual events, welcoming 148 attendees, including corporate professionals, university students, and keen hobbyists.

Something School.

Thu 27 Oct

Delivered in partnership with BOP Industries and Cross River Rail, the Something School has been designed to show young people how they can use digital to make a difference in their communities and around the world.

With activities ranging from designing jobs of the future, to exploring how digital is solving some of today’s greatest challenges, the Something School promises to give students the opportunity to think big, explore out of the box challenges and connect with like minded industry leaders.

In 2022, we were able to open the Something School to 112 and 11 teachers.
