General FAQs

How will Something Digital run this year?
The 2021 curated program will again be delivered in a hybrid format, giving you the opportunity to participate both In-Person and Online.

The In-Person elements will include:
>> 2 days of curated content run across multiple stages
>> 50+ local and interstate speakers + virtual cameos from international guests
>> A dedicated stream of masterclasses
>> A soapbox stage showcasing some of QLD's greatest digital success stories
>> A collaborations zone
>> Endless networking opportunities

The Online edition will run via our virtual hub with curated content from the main stage being streamed live.
Last year was 3 days. Why the shorter 2 day format?
In hearing your feedback from previous years, we wanted to present a broader selection of content while keeping things short & sweet. After all, two's company... three's a crowd.

In-Person vs. Online

What exactly is a hybrid festival?
A hybrid festival will be made up of both In-Person and Online activations. The best of both worlds.

>> The In-Person activations will run in multiple venues across Brisbane, enabling our digital community to meet, engage and collaborate in real life.
>> The Online experience will run via our virtual hub with curated content from the main stage being streamed live.
Will all the content be available online?
We will be live streaming the sessions from the 'main' stage only. The second stage, masterclasses and other activations will not be streamed, so if you are keen to take advantage of all the content, you are best off buying an In-Person ticket.
Will recordings of the sessions be available?
All the streamed sessions will be recorded and left online, in the virtual hub, until 30 November 2021. This will give you a chance to catch up on sessions you might have missed.

At this stage, sessions that are not streamed will not have video content available.
I'm happy to watch all the sessions online, but what about the social events. Can I come to them?
At this stage, the answer is no. If you have an Online ticket, you will only be able to participate via the virtual hub. In-person activities, including networking and drinks, will be reserved for people with In-Person tickets.

Will you have a Covid-Safe Plan?
Of course. We will be implementing a Covid safe plan to ensure all attendees can enjoy the festival in a healthy and safe manner. This will be available in October and will be in line with State and Federal requirements at the time.
What if we lock down again?
In the event of a government lockdown, Something Digital reserves the right to reschedule the event.

In this instance, if the event needs to be re-scheduled, your ticket will automatically be transferred to the new date. If you are unable to make the new date you may either:
>> Send a substitute in your place
>> Transfer your ticket to the 2022 event

Program and Speakers

What are you doing about International Speakers this year?
Much like last year, we'll be bringing the international speakers to you virtually.

While we always prefer to bring you in-person speakers, it's just not possible right now. And with everything an international perspective has to contribute to Something Digital and the topic of Conquering the Unknown, we refuse to give that up!
How is the program structured?
In 2021, the program structure will be the same as what we introduced in 2020.

The days will be broken up into 3 x 1.5-2 hour blocks with hour breaks in between for you to move between venues, explore our Beyond the Stage activations, catch up on emails or just chill out.
When will you release the full program?
At this stage the plan is to release the full program in August. However, to get a sense of the type of content we will be covering, check out our program overview page.
Will there be anything beyond the two main stages?
Absolutely. We are looking to release a number of masterclasses and other activations beyond the two main stages. Details of these will be announced as we get closer to October.

Pricing and Tickets

Can you please explain the pricing this year?
The 2021 Festival will be run as a hybrid event. Part In-Person. Part Online. And for the first time, we're also offering Shared Tickets. This means that we have three ticket types available.

>> Online Only. These tickets give you full access to the virtual event portal + the sessions streamed live from the main stage. If you have an 'Online Only' ticket, you will not be able to attend any of the In-Person events.

>> In-Person | Individual.
These tickets give you the opportunity to attend the In-Person sessions as well as giving you full access to the virtual event hub + all streamed sessions. You will also have the opportunity to book into masterclasses, networking activities and any other events we will be running.

>> In-Person | Shared. Everything the In-Person + Online ticket has to offer plus the option to share your ticket amongst two named attendees who each have access into the Virtual Hub.

Both In-Person and Online tickets are now available!

For full details on ticket types and prices, please head to the pricing page.
What if I change my mind after I have bought my ticket?
The rules are simple. You can upgrade but you cannot downgrade.

If you have purchased an 'Online Only' ticket and you wish to upgrade to 'In-Person' you will need to pay the difference between what you paid and the current 'In-Person' ticket rate. To do this please email us on
Do you have group discounts available?
Yep! For Online Only Tickets and Individual In-Person Tickets, we offer a 20% discount when you purchase 4 or more tickets at one time.

For full details on ticket types and prices, please head to the pricing page.
I'm not planning on attending everything. Can I share my ticket with a colleague?
It depends on what type of ticket you have.

If you have purchased an individual ticket, under no circumstances may tickets be shared. If you are caught sharing your ticket you (or the person you are sharing with) will be asked to leave and your ticket will be cancelled.

However, brand new in 2021 we are excited to introduce shared tickets which will allow you to share your lanyard with one other named attendee. For full details on ticket types and prices, please head to the pricing page.
What if I need to cancel my ticket?
In 2021 tickets are non-refundable. However, if you have purchased a ticket and can no longer attend, you are welcome to gift your ticket to someone else.

Simply email us on with details of your replacement and we will make the switch.
What if you cannot run the In-Person event?
In the event of cancellation of the In-Person portion of the event, due to increased government restrictions, ticket holders will be able to choose between:

a) a refund of the difference in price from the 'In Person + Online' ticket and the 'Online Only' ticket (based on purchase price); or

b) a 150% credit of the difference in price from the 'In-Person + Online' ticket and the 'Online Only' ticket (based on purchase price) to be used towards a single ticket for the 2022 festival
Do you have further discounts for students and not-for-profits?
We have chosen to make our prices as low as possible for everyone. This means that we are unable to offer further discount for students and not-for-profits.

However, we do have a limited number of scholarship tickets available. If you would like to apply for one of these, please drop us a line on
