What is different about Something Digital this year?
Everything! Dubbed the Rebel Edition, Something Digital 2020 is going rogue and running as a hybrid festival: Part Online,  Part In-Person.

The In-Person elements will feature three days of the curated content you love! Plus classics such as Open Studios and the Something School. What will be new for 2020 is that, in true festival style, sessions will be run out of multiple locations across the city, enabling us to enjoy being around people in a safe environment.

The Online edition will run in parallel, broadening our reach to include exclusive content, regional activations and increased engagement. The best of both worlds.

We are also significantly increasing the content by taking the curated program, from one day to three. This will give us the time to dive into those aspects of digital innovation which will not only help to strengthen our organisations but make them more resilient to external disruptions.

In a year when events are being cut back, we are doubling our investment because we believe that digital is the key to economic recovery.
Last year was great. Why aren't you running at the convention centre again?
We agree, last year was awesome! Unfortunately the small inconvenience of a global pandemic got in our way.

But we were not going to let that stop us either! Instead, we have designed an incredible festival which has the flexibility to grow and morph according to the government restrictions, in place at the time. .
3 days is a big time commitment. Am I meant to go to everything?
The short answer - it's up to you.

This year we have designed Something Digital to be more akin to a festival than a conference, meaning that you can attend as much or as little as you like.

If you have an In-Person + Online ticket, you will also have access to the online hub, so you might choose to attend some sessions physically whilst watching others virtually.

It really is an old school choose your own adventure.
What about networking drinks. Will you be having those?
Our current answer is ... we hope so .

Right now, we still do not have visibility beyond Stage 3 lifting of restrictions (in July), so it is hard to predict what will and will not be possible.

We do have our ear to the ground though and will jump on any opportunities to share a cold brew with so many friends we are missing terribly!

In-Person vs Online >>
What exactly is a hybrid festival?
A hybrid festival will be made up of both In-Person and Online activations. The best of both worlds.

The In-Person elements will run in smaller venues across Brisbane, enabling our digital community to meet in real life and rekindle the magic of events in a safe manner.

The Online edition will run in tandem, breaking through our city walls, increasing our reach and providing more opportunities for connection and learning.
Will all the content be available online?
We will be live streaming the sessions from one 'main' stage ... whilst the second stage and smaller masterclasses will not be streamed.

However, we will also be ensuring that we have a number of online exclusives that can only be accessed via the virtual hub.
Will recordings of the sessions be available?
All the streamed sessions will be recorded and left online, in the virtual hub, for 21 days following the end of the Something Digital. This will give you a chance to catch up on sessions you might have missed.

At this stage, sessions that are not streamed will not have video content available.
I'm happy to watch all the sessions online, but what about the social events. Can I come to them?
At this stage, the answer is no. If you have an 'Online Only' ticket you will only be able to participate via the virtual hub. In-person activities, including networking and drinks, will be reserved for people with 'In-Person' tickets.
COVID-19 >>
Will you have a Covid-Safe Plan?
Of course. We will be implementing a Covid safe plan to ensure all attendees can enjoy the festival in a healthy and safe manner. This will be available in October and will be in line with State and Federal requirements at the time.
What if we lock down again?
In the event of cancellation of the In-Person portion of the event, due to increased government restrictions, ticket holders will be able to choose between:

a) a refund of the difference in price from the 'In-Person + Online' ticket and the 'Online Only' ticket (based on purchase price); or

b) a 150% credit of the difference in price from the 'In-Person + Online' ticket and the 'Online Only' ticket (based on purchase price) to be used towards a single ticket for the 2021 or 2022 festival.
Program and Speakers >>
What are you doing about International Speakers this year?
In 2020 we will be 'beaming in' our international speakers.

At the moment, Federal Government restrictions prevent us from having International Speakers fly into Australia - and the realistic likeliness is that this will extend to October.

However, we feel that International Speakers bring an important perspective to Something Digital and we do not want to lose that. So we will be hosting our international speakers online, likely in both a presentation and Q&A format.
How is the program structured?
This year we will be running 2 main stages spread across 3 days.

Days will be broken down into 3 x 1.5 hour blocks which will include 2-4 sessions per block.

There will be an hour of 'interval' time between each block to allow for movement between venues, cleaning of the presentation rooms, and time to safely allow one group to leave before the next one arrives.

In-person participants will need to book into the session blocks they are planning to attend. This will enable us to manage the limited availability and also to know who is in what room in case of the need to contract trace.

We also feel it is important for our online attendees to have 'break time' between sessions.

Learn more about the program structure.
When will you release the full program?
At this stage the plan is to release the full program in August. However, to get a sense of the type of content we will be covering, check out our overarching themes
Will there be anything beyond the two main stages?
Absolutely. We are looking to release a number of masterclasses and other activations beyond the two main stages. However, these will be announced closer to the time.
I've registered. When can I book into session blocks?
If you hold an 'In-Person + Online' ticket you will be eligible to book into the different sessions blocks + masterclasses we have running.

This will be available in October - full details sent to the email address you registered with, so keep your eyes peeled.
Pricing and Tickets >>
Can you please explain the pricing this year?
The 2020 Festival will be run as a hybrid event. Part In-Person. Part Online. This means that we have two ticket types available.

>> In-Person + Online. These tickets give you the opportunity to attend the In-Person sessions as well as giving you full access to the virtual event portal + all streamed sessions. You will also have the opportunity to book into masterclasses, networking activities and other events we will be running.

>> Online Only. These tickets give you full access to the virtual event portal + all streamed sessions. If you have an 'Online Only' ticket, you will not be able to attend any of the In-Person events.

We also have group discounts available to help you save further on your tickets.

For full details on ticket types and prices, please head to the pricing page.
What if I change my mind after I have bought my ticket?
The rules are simple. You can upgrade but you cannot downgrade.

If you have purchased an 'Online Only' ticket and you wish to upgrade to 'In-Person + Online' you will need to pay the difference between what you paid and the current 'In-Person + Online' ticket rate. To do this please email us on hello@somethingdigital.com.au
Why don't you have different group options for the In-Person tickets?
Due to current social distancing requirements, our 'In-Person' tickets are limited this year and expected to be in high demand. So for the sake of simplicity, we have one group price.
I'm not planning on attending everything. Can I share my ticket with a colleague?
This one is a hard no.

To ensure the event is Covid safe we are required to keep records of everyone that is in the room should contact tracing be required. If you share with a colleague our records will not be accurate which would be highly problematic in the event of an outbreak.

Whilst we understand it may be tempting to economise and share your ticket with a colleague, please understand that if you are caught you will be asked to leave and your ticket will be cancelled for the remainder of the festival.
What if i need to cancel my ticket?
In 2020 tickets are non-refundable. However, if you have purchased a ticket and can no longer attend, you are welcome to gift your ticket to someone else.

Simply email us on hello@somethingdigital.com.au with details of your replacement and we will make the switch.
What if you cannot run the In-Person event?
In the event of cancellation of the In-Person portion of the event, due to increased government restrictions, ticket holders will be able to choose between:

a) a refund of the difference in price from the 'In Person + Online' ticket and the 'Online Only' ticket (based on purchase price); or

b) a 150% credit of the difference in price from the 'In-Person + Online' ticket and the 'Online Only' ticket (based on purchase price) to be used towards a single ticket for the 2021 or 2022 festival
Do you have further discounts for students and not-for-profits?
2020 has been a tough year all round so we have chosen to make our prices as low as possible for everyone. This means that we are unable to offer further discount for students and not-for-profits.

However, we do have a limited number of scholarship tickets available which you may apply for here. We will advise the outcomes of these applications in early October based on availability.
I still have more questions >>
Great! We love questions. Hit us up on hello@somethingdigital.com.au and we will do our best to answer them.
